Abigail Disney | Moral Injury and the Complex Legacy of Disney | Point of Relation Podcast
On the Point of Relation podcast, Thomas Hübl is joined by filmmaker, philanthropist, and activist Abigail Disney. They discuss how Abigail’s activism has been informed by the darker aspects of the Disney company and family legacy, and how that legacy is reflective of larger problems in American society.
They also dive deep into the idea of moral injury, which arises when individuals are forced to act against their ethical values, leading to deep psychological and emotional wounds. She and Thomas explore how moral injury can result from systemic failures and the personal struggles of those in conflict zones. Abigail critiques the tendency to flatten historical figures into one-dimensional...

This was so meaningful to me. I was a teenager in the 60’s. I think part of the rebellion was that we had had it with conformity and hypocrisy and Pollyanna views of America. Of course some took it to the extreme. I found an old news broadcast where he was frantically saying that something has happened to the children as they have taken off and are dancing in the streets. I said to myself “You bet we did”. It was a time of expressing healing and freedom. Thanks again for the conversation.

Compassion for ourselves and for others, without judging them, allows us to flow with the love we feel and the positive things about people, but it makes it possible for us to stop repeating hatred, discrimination and injustice.

Perhaps the depth of the Moral Wound is what generates the emotional wound and all the other signs that accompany personal and Collective Trauma. We can redefine, reinterpret and expand the understanding of Collective Trauma, as well as give importance to Ethical Integrity for Humanity in the achievement of Human Development, Equity and Collective Well-being.❤

Being abandoned into a different life other than the horror one you come into with the parents hopes you do better than what they have avalible can be worse. Even if it is a better life. We come to be with the people we come to be with because we are all in the same family prisons within the cycle. And good news. I am imagining parental planetary pardoning. Imagine every baby born from now on into free happy respectful protected spaces. I think they call it energetically enjoying existence. Exciting times really. We can all choose our own release dates. Let's all respect existence then with certainty existence will protect our happiness to live well.

As children whatever family we walk into do exactly only that. We walk into the family's resentments and joys towards life. However being children we must be believing that we cause everybodys expressions of resentment or joy. It will imprison you if you allow it too. With adult eyes see it was only a space in a far away time that you only walked into.

what christiana figueres says regarding the failure in copenhagen as resilient impetus to continue despite failure, to not accept cynic defeat, is akin to the wisdom she alluded to earlier when saying that the path from mind to heart is the longest journey one can take.... implicit in the sagacity of the statement is that the journey from heart to mind is quicker... when operating from the heart, informing the mind of what action must be taken, we're much more courageous and able to reverse or correct traumas... if the heart had to trust the mind before acting, it would be forever "on ice" or "crystallized" as thomas might say -- as that is a slow path... we might compare the mind-to-heart slow path as having to ask for permission from an indecisive troll who wants a toll to be paid before a bridge can be crossed, but whose rationale for profit creates an irrational and alienated discourse from the practicality of needing to cross the bridge...

My mother read Silent Spring by Rachel Carson and she told me all about the destruction of the natural environment more than 50 years ago. So the information was there. I could only stand by and live my life the best I could. For me, Living with humanity is like living with a collective addict. I'm glad to hear these higher level thoughts on change. Hi Thomas, you feel that higher states are not integrated, not touched, and that is because those are not your own states. Trough the practice we connect to spirits who are in higher state of love and consciousness ad we get a glimpse of their state trough that connection - but that still is not our state, it is not the state we are in but the state of the person we are connecting to. - Often we have a valid experience but we are imposing on that experience our interpretation - we put pieces of different ideologies and see that as truth so we interpret our experiences trough that. - Your real state is the one you are in without the practice. If I have pain in my body - that is my real state - my real state is not the one I’m in after I take pain medication, but the one I was in before the medication. Medication can be a remedy but my real state is the one I’m in without the medication, practice, additional action, outside remedies and similar. - To let go of trauma we need to feel our emotions and trough that to release them. Those ancestral traumas are just blocked emotions in us transferred to us from our parents and all ancestors who have blocked those feelings in them. If we decide to feel those emotions we will release them and be free of them - then we do not need practice, that will be our normal state. Imagine a person who is afraid of heights, have a phobia of heights, and we take that person to a tall building - that person can use practice and mentally, intellectually trough meditation or similar, block that emotion of fear, can think like, all is good, or trough meditation person can disconnect from that emotion and until that practice lasts that state is manageable but as soon as the practice stops the emotion is still there, fear comes back. Now, different approach - the same person uses that situation as an asset, to feel that emotion of fear, to really feel it, to get close to that fear, to get in to it, to start shaking and feeling that fear like a little child. If that is an honest feeling same person will soon feel emotions underneath that fear, most often unlovingness, lack of love, and then it will start crying about that. After that emotion is released - the same person can come to the top of the building and without any practice be free of fear and enjoy the view. - These two paths are different, one is intellectual and other is emotional. In the emotional one we are becoming more like a child, honest with our emotions, playful and emotional (very wise behind that) and on the intellectual path we are becoming more like a figure of a wise old man with knowledge but not so emotionally open and honest. - Collective trauma is just similarity of individual trauma on a certain region - and individual blocked emotions(trauma) if not felt are carried over to the next generations. That is why we carry blocked emotions of previous generations and it is up to us to open to those emotions and to feel them. - The trauma that was passed down from our ancestors to us, actually their blocked emotions, becomes our trauma because we also do not want to feel those emotions and because we further blocked them and live in them. We live in fear and because of that we are blocked towards our own body and towards others and towards nature. Opening up to the outside would also mean opening up to our own emotions, and we don't want that because we don't want to feel those emotions, we are afraid of them, we judge them. The emotion itself is not the problem, the problem is that we do not want to feel that emotion and our will is directed in the direction of not feeling that emotion. - When we work spiritually from there and through meditation or similar practices (and substances) we connect with spirits, we experience spiritual states and love from the perspective of those spirits, they transfer part of their energy to us as an inspiration and stimuli on our way, but it is important to remember that this is not our real state but the other person's state.
